The purpose of this project was to deepen my understanding of procedurally generated materials in 3D software, and to perfect procedural marble to the point of being able to have new, convincing, and unique marble materials at the press of a button. All of the materials shown on this page were randomly generated.
By restricting the range of colors from which the computer could randomly choose, I was able to generate more natural looking marble materials. Still random, but more applicable when modeling real world scenes.
Throwing in a simple glossy shader into any of the color inputs of the marble generator, gives the impression of precious metal deposits:
